The reality is that this is a brilliantly executed and luxe-feeling large SUV, and as a five-seater, it makes a heap of sense for a big-boot bus. The EV range, efficiency and equipment list are enticing, and so is the pricing.
It delivers a premium-feeling cabin, an extensive list of standard equipment, a punchy plug-in hybrid powertrain and competitive ownership costs.
First impressions show just how far SUVs have come, with models now offered at the same price as some legacy brands' entry-specification large SUVs.
The Jaecoo J8 SHS is one of those cars that makes traditional large SUVs look a bit lazy on paper. You get seven seats, all-wheel drive, a big plug-in hybrid battery, strong EV range claims, luxury features everywhere and acceleration that is frankly ridiculous for the job.
For those working with a budget who want a luxurious experience and full EV driving capability for those day-to-day duties, but still relatively good efficiency for longer runs, I think this makes a lot of sense.
